Daniel Henry Short was born in 1813 in NC.
Daniel Henry Short was the first man to establish Blacksmith shop in Wise County, VA. The shop was a one room log structure on North Fork of Pound built about 1845. He was elected Justice of the Peace and helped organize the new county of Wise in 1856. Wrote all deeds and public papers. Was called "Squire Dan". He was relected JOP each year until his death.
Daniel Henry Short was married to Leah Baker (daughter of James Walter Baker and Elizabeth Unknown) about 1830 in Perry County, Ky. Leah Baker was born
in 1812 in Russell County, VA. She died on 23 May 1880 in Wise County, Va.
